GENERAL SUMMARY: The Engineer is appointed by the Mayor and responsible to
the Board of Public Works and Safety for the oversight of engineering activities
regarding city-owned facilities, city’s public infrastructure, utility rights-of-way, and
traffic flow within the jurisdiction of the city of Connersville.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Assists department heads with the engineering, design, layout, repair, and maintenance of city facilities.
Provides engineering resources to all departments of the city in need of such services including, but not
limited to, oversight of projects and/or the recommendation of outside services for major projects.
Assists in the preparation of bid specifications, when requested, for bituminous materials,
aggregate materials, road chemicals, and other such items bid annually.
Keeps an accurate inventory of city streets and right-of-way conditions and advises the Street
Superintendent and/or the Board of Public Works and Safety in the prioritization of overlay, expansion,
replacement, and/or repair of such.
Advises the Street and Police Departments, when requested, about traffic studies, traffic flow, routing,
signage, and traffic controls.
Assigns street addresses to buildings and properties within the city.
Recommends ordinances and resolutions to the Board of Public Works and Safety and the City Council
regarding traffic and safety items, housing subdivision plans, and industrial development that requires
engineering expertise.
Enforces city ordinances and Board of Works orders pertaining to weeds, abandoned vehicles and
buildings, and other property items that affect the health and welfare of citizens of the community
through Code Enforcement staff.
Research, recommend, and work with engineering/architectural firms in the planning, development,
and implementation of special construction projects of the city.
Reviews and recommends subdivision state and local ordinance compliance for acceptance by the
Board of Public Works and Safety for perpetual maintenance.
Serves as inspector for grant projects to ensure compliance with grant specifications and grant plans as
well as ordinance compliance.
Serves on assigned committees and task forces to review and provide engineering expertise on behalf
of the city.
Serves as the City’s ADA Coordinator regarding facility, street, and sidewalk accessibility; and completing
and filing annual reporting related to same.
Responds to citizen and business inquiries and complaints regarding issues within the City Engineer’s
jurisdiction.
Performs other duties as requested by the Mayor and/or the Board of Public Works and Safety and as
defined by city ordinances and state statutes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Must have a four-year degree in engineering. Civil Engineer preferred.
Experience: Experience and knowledge in the workings of local government preferred.
Special Requirements: Works primarily in an office environment but must also be able to perform field inspections on construction. sites at various levels of development.
